Summer 2023 Advancing Space Sciences through Undergraduate Research Experience (ASSURE) internship program

Hello!
Have you ever wanted to get involved with a real space mission? Have you ever wondered how Mars lost its atmosphere, what causes the aurora, or how space weather can affect life on Earth?
The Space Sciences Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley, is inviting applicants to the summer 2023 Advancing Space Sciences through Undergraduate Research Experience (ASSURE) internship program. Pending funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the program will run for ten weeks from Jun 4 – Aug 11, 2023. The ASSURE program provides research opportunities in the space sciences and engineering for undergraduates from community colleges and other institutions with limited on-campus research.
ASSURE interns will work alongside leading researchers in the space sciences and engineering on cutting-edge real world problems, gaining hands-on experience with interdisciplinary skills commonly used in both academic and professional environments: coding, hardware development, data analysis, and scientific communication.
The program is broadly open to currently enrolled undergraduates majoring in STEM fields with an interest in the space sciences. No previous research experience is necessary. A stipend and housing support are provided to interns. First generation and nontraditional students, as well as those with identities historically underrepresented in the sciences are strongly encouraged to apply. Participants must be citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States.
The program will be in person at the Space Sciences Laboratory in Berkeley, CA, and we will provide housing for interns.
The application, due at 11:59pm PT on Friday, March 3, 2023, can be found at
